Who developed the technology for the plant?
Passavant-Roediger, a global leader in wastewater treatment, developed the technology for the wastewater treatment system. With an outstanding reputation in the field of environmental technology, Passavant-Roediger was chosen as the technology provider due to its commitment to creating innovative solutions which minimize the environmental footprint, consistent with TANQIA’s company philosophy.
What is the wastewater treatment plant’s capacity?
The plant’s initial wastewater treatment capacity will be 16,000 cubic meters per day, with two modules of 8,000 cubic meters per day. TANQIA is in the process of increasing the plant’s wastewater treatment capacity by another 16,000 cubic meters per day to meet the demands of recent population growth, thereby doubling the overall treatment capacity of the plant to 32,000 cubic meters per day.
What happens to the effluent produced at the site?
Some of the effluent generated by the plant will be used in the operation and maintenance of the plant. The irrigation system at the plant, for instance, will utilize the effluent generated by the facility. The rest of the effluent will be delivered to the Municipality of Fujairah for a variety of uses, such as landscaping.
What is the process of anaerobic digestion used at the site?
Passavant-Roediger developed a process called anaerobic digestion for the treatment of sludge at the site. This digestion process breaks down the sludge and generates methane. The methane is then used for power generation at the site. Going full circle, the waste heat from the power generation is in turn used to maintain temperatures required for the digestion process.
